Loving the continued monochromatic moodiness of London Fall 2013 – although, as you’ll see tomorrow, there is a strong strain of blood red on the loose too. Erdem echoed the season’s toned down, textured up trend with a sublime digital/dot duo (directly above), whilst Mother of Pearl combined graphic stripes and a bee print to great effect. And a honorable mention to Antonio Berardi, whose series of crisp, dark gowns screamed Top of his Game. Oh, and Tom Ford: you minx! HF. Moody, mossy London. Mary Katrantzou reduced her palette to inky hues and was inspired by the photographs of early twentieth century photographer Alfred Steiglitz, cleverly shaking off the burden of her multi, kaleidoscopic prints that have since been attempted by every other designer and their lap dog. Also: super cute collections from Sea and Emilia Wickstead. HF.

Brocaded blooms at Vera Wang, glitter art nouveau accents at Tory Burch and a whole host of wardrobe wantables at J. Crew. From top: J. Crew, Tory Burch, Vera Wang, J. Crew, Jenny Packham, Tory Burch, Tory Burch. Images from Style.com and The Cut.

NYFW Fall 2013 so far: some great pared-back prints and tones of olive, camel and navy. Both Carolina Herrera and Alexandre Herchcovitch used a gloriosa lily print to great effect. But the message seemed to be: no more flowers and neat trousers. I am late to the party with Mother of Pearl: designer Maia Norman’s sporty, arty label that regularly teams up with art world stars to produce some pretty amazing prints. Winter 2012 saw Fred Tomaselli contribute the rights to a range of paintings, resulting in some hypnotic Autumnal designs of bird life, flora and constellations. This Spring/Summer, Francesco Simeti continued the collage feel – images second, third and fifth from top. Looking forward to seeing the next partnership. HF.
